The FAQs frequently asked questions everyone of you might have. let's find some answers! - Is this site active?
Sure we are active here, however by the time you're reading this FAQ here, it has probably been sitting here for several days/ weeks/ months now. So if this answer doesn't quite inspire confidence, you are always welcome to peek into our cbox, or drop any of our admins a PM asking.
- How often do the staff look at applications?
We all try our hardest to make look at the applications on daily basis, though do understand that life do get in the way sometimes, even if we all want to contribute all our time on the site, we can't. That's why we are hoping you would give us 24 hours to get to your applications. When we failed to do so, feel free to poke us about it on PM/ remind us about it on cbox if you see us hanging out there.
- What if I cannot finish my app in a week?
As you know, the allocated time for an application to be done will be 7 days from the day it was put up. If you know you're going to take longer than that to finish it up, you're advice to write your application elsewhere and keep it safe there until it's done. In the case that if an application has sat there still working in process after seven days, we will moved said application into the ABANDONED board after marking it EXPIRED.
An extra note here, when we're marking the application expired, we aren't denying your character. After your application is moved to Abandoned, you still have a month's time to work on him/ her and you may reply to the application saying so, the staffs will then look at it soon as we managed to.
- Why are you moving the applications to Abandoned when we're still working on it?
Well, the thing is, we are not exactly sure that you're actually still working on it or has you abandon it. There are always some people who joined the site and started working on a character then they realized they're not interested in it. The many WIP applications on the registration board will also make it looks cluttered, sending the wrong message to the newcomers. Keeping it neat would make the site a more comfortable place for everyone to hang out.
- What should I do if I have an issue with another member?
If it is something you can't solve by yourself, you are always welcome to contact a staff member, we will try our best to help you solve said issue.
- What if I having issue with a staff?
OK, since I am not going to say all of our staffs here are perfect, we request you to approach ADMIN PAIGE immediately and let her know about the issue you're having (and if you have an issue with Paige, you may approach any of the other admins). We will try our best to help you through this/ clear up any misunderstanding if there are any.
- Is there a word count?
Yes, we have a minimum word count requirement for post and that's 150 words, however you might find people here generally post more than the required amount of words.
The RAPID FIRE and LETTERS AND OWLS boards are exempted from this rule.
- How many characters can I have?
There's no set number in regarding this, but we advice one to take only what you can handle. If you can't even keep half your number of characters active every month, we will then ask you to delete your least active character(s) and might stop you from making anyone new.
- Can I make an adult?
Sure, we accept both students and adults here on EHC. Be sure to check out the available job positions we are offering too!
- Can I make a first year?
Yes, we do accept students from first year here, however do note any child stars, models, singers, etc. below 13 years old are not allowed to use as face claim. By law, Child Exploitation is illegal and it CAN get a site shut down, sued, or the people behind it even imprisoned. So to protect us and protect yourself, avoid claiming anyone who's below 13. There are plenty child stars between age of 13 - 16 which can be pass as a younger character, feel free to ask for suggestions on Cbox if you need them!
- Can I make a transfer student?
Yes you can, provided the reason given is valid. However seeing that our site is based UK, we prefer to have more local students (ie: breed and born in England). Transfer students doesn't happen often seeing it's extremely hard for the kid to catch up, especially given each magic schools have their own syllables and even a completely different educational standards. Not to mention the student have to learn a totally different language and fit in a totally different lifestyle.
- Whats the activity policy?
Member: A member will be considered active if he/ she would drop by the place at least once every 3 days, that is, to at least talk on the cbox or make a post on board;
Character: A character will only be considered active if he/ she has make at least one proper post in that month, which doesn't includes Rapid Fire or Letters and Owls. For quick posting like Rapid Fire and Letters, one will have to make at least 5 posts that month to be considered active.
- Can I take a claimed face/job if a member is inactive?
As we are going to have an activity check every two months, we hope you'll be a little patient and wait for us to clear out the list after each check. If you really would love to take a claim from a member you've noticed hasn't been here for a while - without missing note - though (ie: more than 4 weeks), you may approach to an admin and ask about it.
- What's the year and how does the timeline progress?
The In-Character year now is 2024. Timeline progress are are implementing 2 : 2 here, that is, for every 2 months time passed in OCC, every 2 months passed IC too. Only our months might be a little different seeing the site started officially in December (OCC).
You may always check out our info tab to see our current year and month.
- What's my character's blood status?
There's only three types of blood status existing in the wizarding world, that is Pureblood, Halfblood and Muggleborn.
Pureblood meaning that your character's whole ancestry line are make up of pureblood wizards and witches, there's no muggle or lesser blood wizards tainting the family line. As keeping the magical heritage clean is becoming harder as years progress, inbreeding among pure-bloods and some marrying Muggles and Muggle-borns, the number of families claiming to be pureblood is declining.
Muggleborn are a wizard/ witch who is born to two non-magical parents. Muggleborns inherit their magic from their distance ancestors, most probably descended from squibs who have married Muggles and whose families had lost the knowledge of their wizarding legacy.
Halfblood is given to the wizard/ witch who has a Muggle/Muggle-born parent and a magical parent, otherwise it is also apply to anyone who has mix of blood/ or even carrying creature genes as their blood isn't entirely pure-wizard, though magical. Halfbloods currently are the most common type of magical person in the Wizarding world.
- Are there ever IC site events?
We do indeed, you can look out for one coming your way soon.
- Does muggle technology work around magic?
I am sorry, but no, muggle technology still doesn't work around magic, hence there will be no mobile phones in Hogwarts. The magic in the air has too much interruption on any electronic devices for it to function properly, however some wizards might have been inspired to make something similar to muggle electronic devices, there is a recent launch of wPod and wPad which runs on Wizardnet. You are free to come up with your own inventions. ;)
- How do I know what jobs my adult character can have?
I believe everything you want to know is listed on our OCCUPATION CLAIMS.
- What's the difference between aurors and hit wizards? And what is the magical law enforcement patrol?
Aurors basically are the black wizard catchers, they are the wizarding world equivalent of police officers and military, trained to investigate crimes related to the Dark Arts, and apprehend or detain Dark wizards and witches.
Hit Wizards too while having the similar task to investigate crimes related to dark arts, their mission are generally more dangerous in compare to that of an auror. Hit Wizard mainly handle cases that's beyond the auror's handling. We can compare them as the FBI among the wizarding world.
For more information, you may check out this page.
The Magical Law Enforcement Patrol are like your daily neighborhood police officers who tasked with general law enforcement like stealing, cheating, general missing belongings, etc. They are the one general public should go report to upon witnessing any suspicious behavior.
You may also read more about the Magical Law Enforcement Patrol here.
- Can we play anything else apart from wizards and witches here?
Good question! Well, as there are too many magical beings existing in the world for us to allow everything playable, we do allow a certain non-wizards options which includes: 1 - Vampires, 2 - Werewolves, 3 - Ghosts and 4 - Muggles/ Squibs. Of course, suitable history must be written out carefully on how, when and why a person came to be what he/ she is today.
- Why do you have ability bans?
Special abilities has always been rare even among wizards and witches, we want to keep this place as close to reality as possible and at the same time avoiding anyone from power playing.
- What happened if I exceeded ability ratio?
Well, we won't actually as you to remove the ability from your character, however we will forbid you from making anymore character with ability until you've even out the ratio.
- Do you allow exception on your ability bans?
Depends on situation, there's no certain yes or no in this. However we will not ban anyone from getting a canon with ability even when they have went over the ability ratio we've suggested. And exemption can be make for learned ability (Animagus, Occlumency and Legilimency) if your character met the criteria as stated in the RULES.
