The end of term was drawing closer which meant Pascal had to make an even greater effort to make time for Brigitta. There were expectations of him from both of her parents and his own mother. Of course Adina had reminded him it fall upon him to their engagement official - soon after she graduated. Her birthday was in the summer and Cal was sure most everyone was expecting them to make the announcement around the same time, after all that was the way pureblood worked wasn't it? Why let a celebration go to waste when you can make it about something else as well.
It wasn't that he didn't like Brigitta - on the contrary she was actually one of the few people he actually enjoyed. She'd been his friend for so many years and he'd always known she'd be in his life for a long time...but was she truly meant to be his wife? A proper relationship was nothing they had explored together, not until they knew just what was arranged for them. He'd been dating someone at the time when his mother informed him it wasn't a good idea to be getting attached to some other woman. It might have left him a little bitter...or more than a little. Not that Celeste was any better than Brigitta, but he'd never know if Brig was really his own choice in the end - or was she simply duty?
He felt terrible whenever he associated her with the word. It was a terrible word that brought back terrible memories. How many lectured had he withstood from a man who had no right? And now here he was comparing those memories to weekends with his betrothed. How did she ever stand him? Hogwarts weekends were something Cal was very use to spending with Brig, after all before he had graduated he'd spend many of the village trips with Brig herself. So why didn't he feel so joyous about these ones? Why did he let the weight of duty overwhelm himself? A part of him wondered if Brig too shared the fear and burdens he did, yet he was too proud to admit to any of it. Instead he carried on, doing his best to be what she needed him to be.
Punctual as always Cal was waiting at their typical meet up in the village. Out of the way of the bustle of the street. Here he waited knowing her punctuality could vary - after all Hogwarts had an unpredictability to it at times between professors and dramas one could end up late to their own weekend. Of course pushing aside responsibility Cal was looking forward to seeing Brig, the letters their exchanged were no replacement to the fireside chats in the commons, or even back in their homes.

notes: this is a terrible start I'm sorry, you know how very first posts can just be awkward, but figured they should have at least one thread before she graduates - hit me up if you want me to mod this
