Axel had been excited to return home for the holidays. Sure this was only his second year at Hogwarts and thus only his second year to return home for Christmas but that didn't mean he couldn't be excited to be headed back home. Of course Axel had his cat, Felix with him both at school and when he returned home, like his older brother he had a fondness for cats.
His older brother, Rowyn, Axel was excited that he would get to see his brother this holiday. Since Rowyn had graduated and Axel had entered Hogwarts their interactions were limited to holiday and summer visits. Of course once he was a third year he could meet his bother on village weekends but that was still a while to come.
It hadn't taken Axel but an hour to settle back into his room at home, Felix settled into the hammock of his cat tree. Having settled and changed into an every day outfit and jumper Axel made his way into the heart of the home looking for his mother "Mum, when is Rowyn getting here?" The thirteen-year-old had an impatience in his tone, he was eager to spend time with his brother and hated waiting for him to return home as well.

The past few months had been a little rough for Rowyn. Wyatt and he had a bit of a falling out, to no fault of either but the travel for Wyatt seemed to much, the same for Rowyn, he didn't much like the travel. Both had tried but it had become too much for the both of them. Since then, Rowyn had poured himself into work, maybe to his own detriment, working too much with Dragons, and while you're tired would mean that you put yourself in a vulnerable position. While Rowyn believed himself to be decent at his job, working with dragons in general meant getting burned, and injured. His right arm had burn marks up and down it, still healing from the last time he was burned.
Now it was holiday season and Rowyn took time well needed off from work. He always made his way home for holidays. Usually with Wyatt in tow. They would spend part of their holiday at his family's home and part of their time with Wyatt's family. This year it would be spent with his family only, a bittersweet change for him.
He'd packed up a few outfits to wear before apparating home to Ireland. He made his way up to his childhood home. He opened the door before walking in and putting down his bag. He'd heard Axel ask their mother when he would arrive. He peeked his head into the room, ”Never, thought I'd stay and play with dragons this year,” he said with a rather large grin. He was excited that his holiday would be entirely spent with his younger brother and the rest of his family. He didn't get much time with Axel, and with Wyatt out of the picture it was one less person to focus his time upon. And time was always something that was needed.

It didn't take long for Axel to recognize the voice behind the answer to his question. "Rowyn!" He exclaimed as he rushed over to his elder brother. Maybe at school Axel tended to come off as quiet and reserved but when it came to interaction with his brother Axel tended to be nothing short of a all of energy. The younger boy was quick to throw his arms around his brother giving him a tight hug, he had no shame showing affection to his brother, not when it had been so long since they had last seen each other.
There was a smile on the boy's face as he pulled away from his brother and gave him so space. Now the holiday could truly start. Now having greeted his brother so warmly he felt fine giving him a brotherly punch in the shoulder - for the dragon remark, "As if dragons could keep you away from Mum's Christmas pudding." It was a joke, on both ends but still Axel was only half amused with the idea of his brother choosing his job over the holiday.
"Let's get you settled Rowyn! Than we can have some fun!" Axel of course was excited to get started on his brother's bonding time, they did have months of separation to make up for now. Of course it could be strange at time trying to bond with a sibling that was an adult but they both knew the importance of having a relationship with one another. Axel wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his brother first he just knew he wanted to make the most of this winter holiday since it was likely that he wouldn't see his brother again until the end of the school term and summer started. Next year he would be a third year though and he could spend some weekend at the village - where Rowyn could join him.

”Rowyn!” Rowyn was greeted by his younger brother. Quickly he was pulled into a hug from his brother and Rowyn returned the gesture. He was always happy to see Axel. After the greeting he was punched in the shoulder, naturally for saying that he’d rather spend his holidays with dragons. Rowyn gave a bit of a groan. Bruises and burns, they were something else indeed. ”I would have just had Mum send me her Christmas pudding,” he told his brother as he rubbed his shoulder.
”Let’s get you settled Rowyn! Than we can have some fun!” Rowyn nodded and took his bag up to his childhood room. He sat the bag on his bed and took off his coat. He grabbed a hanger from the closet and hung up the coat just a bit perfectly. He made his way back to the living room.
”Before we go have some fun, you should update me on school and how being home for the holiday has been so far,” he told him with a smile. It wasn’t always easy having a brother so many years younger than himself, after all they never got the same time as siblings who were closer in age since they did not go to school for any of their years together. It also didn’t help that immediately after leaving school Rowyn moved to Scotland to work with dragons. Next year that would change a lot, since he did live in Scotland it wasn’t difficult to get to Hogsmeade at all.
The two brothers separated by seven years most definitely had time to make up when they had free time. It was hard to separate the close siblings when they were together. He was glad that he was able to keep time off for the holidays to spend his time with family. This year spending it with family was quite important to him after all that had happened previously.

Axel smirked at his brother in a way that meant he was calling him a liar when Rowyn spoke of just having their mother send him the pudding. Of course he still looked at Rowyn with a fondness in his eyes - brothers were meant to tease one another weren't they?
It didn't take long for Axel to assume his role as Rowyn's shadow. Even though he was nearly a teenager now and Rowyn was a man it felt as if it had only been a few years ago that he followed him around in made up games - games they both had long since out grown. He didn't say much to his brother as he followed him - he mostly watched with his blue eyes as Rowyn carefully set up in his childhood room.
Entering back into the living room Axel made himself comfortable when his brother made it clear he wanted to chat and catch up first. First Axel just shrugged unsure what sort of answer to give his brother. "It'd be better if I could use magic at home." Axel was known for giving this answer, might have been the best part of school - you actually got to use magic. "It's great seeing Mum and Dad though - and Mum's cooking, Hogwarts is top notch but - I like Mum's."
Yes, second year was easier than his first year - the being away from their parents. He was the baby as well, and possibly a bit of a Mumma's boy - not that he would ever admit it. "What about the dragons, whats far more exciting than Hogwarts - you've already done Hogwarts, tell me something exciting about the dragons!"
Now Axel did find dragons amazing, but his passion for them was more a byproduct of enthusiasm for his brother's passion. Still, dragons were exciting regardless and always meant there were good stories. Regardless Axel was young with a rather short tracked mind, and right now he was just keen to spend some quality time with his elder bother.
