Free Style Since before the birth of the Ministry as well as that of Department of International magical cooperation, the name Rousseau has always been the first thing to be thought of when it comes to their sectors – politics and business, which have strictly been their family tradition and their pride for so many generations. The Rousseau is a prominent English pureblood family in the politics and trading of the wizarding world since the International Warlock Convention 1289, descending from French merchants Alphonse Rousseau and Célestine Rousseau. The convention was held to form the core of our nowaday's mordern society by having all parties agree to particular terms involving currency, trading, education system, international relations, which were later the base of the mordern laws. The Rousseau pride themselves on their significant contribution in making and advancing the trading laws, which has brought their name to another level and given them certain influence when it comes to politics. This family is also known for being dreadful and merciless dealers not only to the outsiders but also to its members. It is said that a politician must have a cool mind. To the Rousseau, it is a cool heart. To keep the family tradition from rotting and being eroded, seeing that the world is always changing and so is human's thinking, there is an unwritten rule stating that all the first son of the family must take over the family tradition of politics and carry the family name. Keeping the purity of their bloodline is also a must. He who refuses to do that will have to make a deal, or a contract, of which terms and conditions include severing ties with the all of the remain members of the family – from the youngest to the eldest, changing his last name, never returning to the family's mansion and one more optional condition decided by the eldest member. The last condition is usually more cruel than anything mentioned before it, because it aims to break the betrayer down, cut him into pieces and make him crawl back and beg forgiveness, which could never be granted. 1978 saw the birth of Raphael and Annalise Rousseau's first son Aramis, who was supposed to bring his parents joy and peace of mind. But he didn't. Two years later, another boy was born and was named Fourques, who was supposed to be a disappointment and overshadowed by his older brother. But he did not. The boys were each other's best friends and they were as close as brothers should be. Aramis loved his younger brother dearly, as though he wanted to make up for Forques, who their parents hardly notice. Raphael and Annalise did not even bother to feel bad about playing favorite. All they cared about was Aramis. Everything was for Aramis and Forques was just a backup plan. Their bias accidentally sowed a seed of unhealthy jealousy inside their younger son's head. Forques no longer felt comforted when his brother talked to him. The older he got, the more he came to detest seeing Aramis in the care of his parents. Forques wanted to do something. Sometimes he came up with some plans to take his brother down, but he never had the guts to proceed with them. Unlike Aramis who was righteous and brave, Forques was stupidly ambitious but too easily scared to fulfill any of his ambitions. The moment he was on the verge of accepting his fate of forever being an underdog, Aramis came to him with a story. The story was about a woman and a rain. She was a muggleborn wizard. A filthy muggleborn with nothing to her name. Aramis came across her when he was on a business trip to Ireland and was at a bus stop, waiting for the rain to stop. She was sweet, funny and smart. They found out that they were partners in a project. “I love her.” Aramis said with worries in his voice. Forques saw his chance right there, so he wasted no time and ceased it right away. Acting like a supportive younger brother, he encouraged Aramis to “fight for his love”, in the way that was usually described in poems and novels. So the Rousseau heir confessed his feelings for the woman to his parents, asking for their approval. Followed it was a series of pain. The parents tried to stop their son, did anything in their ability to make him sober from his stupid lovesickness. But it was no use. One day, Aramis came to Raphael's reading room to ask for the deal. The old man's face went white like a dead man, but it became stone-like almost instantly as he pulled out the contract from his desk. All the familiar things were there. It took Raphael a whole day to fill in the blank for the final condition. Aramis would have to hand in his resignation for his current position at the Ministry and the Rousseau would not pay a penny for anything with Aramis and his woman involved. Aramis signed, with no hesitation. The young man moved out immdiately that night, leaving his younger brother with all the attention from his parents. He started a poor yet happy life with the woman he loved and thought it was the happy ending they had saught. Aramis did everything stated in the deal – changing his last name, never making any contact with the Rousseau, never returning to the house where he grew up, resigning from his job position and never asking for a penny from the ones who had thrown him out of the door. But life was not fairy tale, not to him at least. His second child, a baby girl, was born very ill. She had severe trouble breathing, which needed special treatments to cure. A surgeon, the necessary equipments as well as the medicine cose a fortune. Had Aramis been the person he had been before leaving his family, it would not have been a problem. Nontheless, the empty-handed him had to struggle to earn a living, let alone paying such dreadful bills. So he decided to swallow his pride and crawl back to the Rousseau to ask for their help. But they turned their backs on him. They refused to even talk to him. Raphael and Annalise would rather watch their granddaughter die than spare a penny for her. No penny - it was the last condition in the deal. The child died three weeks after she shed her first tear. The pain and grief ate up all the hearts. Aramis made a promise to himself, to his wife and to his children, that the name Rousseau would never ever be spoken in his house. As for Forques, he grew up and became the man Aramis should have been – the head of Department of International magical cooperation and the husband to Veronica Tchaikovsky, who he knew nothing about until their wedding day. The early of the 2000s saw the birth of Forques' first son – Viktor. Followed him was Leonid, who was born in the summer of 2002. A few years after that, Veronica gave birth to two girls – Valeriya and Madeleine. The four siblings were close as siblings should be. Whereas Leonid tends to keep distance with his brother - everything is generally polite and awkward between them, he feels closest to the older girl, and is extremely protective of both of his sisters, and sometimes he may try to control their lives, too. Like Raphael and Annalise, but maybe without actually intending to, Forques and Veronica have been playing favorite. Viktor is their golden boy and the apple of their eye. He has got to choose everything first since childhood. And of course, he always has the best. If Viktor were Aramis, he might feel thankful for the fact that his younger brother has never been interested in either the attention from their parents or the responsibility to carry the name of their family. Leonid is really grateful that he was born the second son - the backup plan and the second option to the heavy crown which he has no intention of wearing, despite his parents' playing favorite causing him to feel uncomfortable around Viktor. Seeing that Forques and Veronica have hardly taken any notice of him, the boy has been given a chance to pursue his own dreams, to live his life the way he wants. Though it was not jealousy that the parents' bias had sowed the seed of, the freedom Leonid had formed an idea, which developed into a belief, that he could do whatever he wanted and no one could, or would occasionally, stop him. His arrogance became noticeable during his years at Hogwarts, when he decided that he had the right to look down on certain people and pick on them just because he felt like it. Obnoxious as he might be, people still found certain things about him admirable, such as his determination, sometimes his look, his manners and his great passion for Quidditch. He joined the Slytherin in his first year as a seeker, who soon enough made his name with his outstanding performance and his playing standards. It was not at all pleasant for Veronica and Forques to see their son being more interested in flying on a broomstick than working by the paperdesk. But they do not try to stop him, because they had Viktor after all. With no pressure about future job on his shoulders, Leonid had no difficulty figuring out what he would become after Hogwarts: a Quidditch player. And he wanted more than being just a player - he wanted fame and success. That ambition later gave him all the motivation and strength he needed to push himself to bring his dreams into existence. After his graduation from Hogwarts, he was recruited in Puddlemere United Quidditch team and became the captain only a year and a half after that. Now people do not address him as "the younger son of the Rousseau" anymore, but Leonid Rousseau - a Quidditch star and a dream for so many people. He no longer attends events and parties at a part of his family but as an independent man whose career was built up by his own hands, blood and sweat, not his last name. It can be said that Quidditch is everything the young Rousseau cares about. He loves women, too, undoubtedly. In fact, he is known for dating and sleeping around. However, while it is no big deal for him to turn his back on a woman and treat like a stranger, it is virtually impossible for him to give up Quidditch. Then again, he who wears the crown, bears the crown. He is not the chosen one for the crown. Fortunately, in the foreseeable future, that crown is still miles away from him. So he supposes he would just wish Viktor all the best. Let's us all just be friend, And together we can start a new trend. |
