Winnipeg, Canada Life always had a way of feeling simple in Manitoba; which maybe feels like an understatement with all things considered. The Hale family has claimed to be pureblood for generations, of course get too far back and some questions can be raised about the true validity of the claim; though Gidget never really cared about any of that. She had always been a curious child, sneaking out of the family tutoring sessions. She was the third born of four child, and the second girl of the family. There was Gideon, Glinda, herself, and Gaheris; they each were born around three years apart there was no doubt that each had been planned accordingly. The early years they were tutored by their mother, aunt, and a captivating man from across the seas. This man was the favorite of young Gidget, the one whose lessons she was less likely to sneak out of. It was the stories he told though of all the places he had traveled and the people he had met, and these stories feed a desire inside the child that would blossom into a seamless unquenchable thirst for adventure.
Like her older siblings Gidget attended the wizarding school located in America, it wasn't hard for the 11 year old to find herself away from her parents; though by the time Gidget was 15 she was over learning from books and professors. She had always been a hands on child, escaping lessons to run outside and explore the world around her; wasn't there still so much to see and learn? School was no different, while she had been captivated in her first few years soon it become more about book work and lectures, an environment she did not thrive in at all. It was hardly a shock to her parents when she approached them at 16 and explained she wanted a change. There was a comprised reached, she needed to wait till she was considered an adult in the wizarding world and than she could do as she wanted, but she was expected to take the final exams - her parents where amendment about not supporting an adult child who would never be able to find work.
And that's exactly what happened. She had enlisted more tutors than most ever thought necessary to help prepare her for the early exam, she didn't need to do amazing she just needed to pass with acceptable marks. One month after turning 17 she was packing her bags and preparing for the adventure of a life time.
Reykjavík, Iceland It took a few days to get to Reykjavík Iceland, she'd not expected to spend three months in the city but everything seemed new and exciting to her. She was 17 and out on her own, making adventures like she had dreamed of after hearing so many stories from her former tutor. The first three months of her adventure where spent in Reykjavík, she relied heavily on support from her parents, support she was assured she was going to have to supplement on her own - this was her choice after all. It was a learning curve for the young witch, the vagabond life was not an easy one. Learned why her parents had insisted that she do her best to finish up her studies before setting out into the world. There where moments when she wondered if she would have been better off finishing school, even though deep down she knew it never would have worked that way for her no matter what. She had found work with an herbologist, two months she spent in the Icelandic mountainsides and wilds cataloging magical pants and creatures. Iceland was small though, and had only so much adventure to offer the teenager, so after three months Gidget found herself preparing to set off again. With guidance from her new found friends in Reykjavík the girl found herself headed to Denmark.
Copenhagen, Denmark Copenhagen felt more like a vacation than an adventure for Gidget. She spent almost two months in the city and found herself struggling much like she had in Iceland, work was hard to come by in Denmark for a foreigner - only this time she didn't seek out her parents. Fate must have smiled on her because just as her saved up funds where starting to get desperately low she met a small group of Beauxbatons graduates who where there celebrating their new found adulthood. Having had little success finding herself in Copenhagen she was quick to accepting her new found friend's offer to come back to their home town in Belgium.
La Reid, BELGIUM La Reid Belgium, the place she would come to call home for just shy of a year. One of the Beauxbatons graduates, named Alison, offered to let Gidget return to her parents' home while she looked for a job and residence. Alison was not much older than Gidget and the two had become fast friends between their short adventure in Copenhagen and the weeks that followed their return to La Reid.
Finding a job as a drop out is not as easy as a teenager might think it to be. So many things about the magical world were dangerous to a wizard who might not have had all the proper training as a typical wizard. Still Gidget managed. While it took some convincing she found herself working at an 'exotic' pet shop, she always had a passion for nature and the creature found in it, it seemed like a fitting job. After the job it came time to find a place to call her own, at least for a while. It took three months to find a place that her 'host' family approved of - most of all Alison. The friendship was turning into something different, something new and exciting.
Gidget was rather, inexperienced, in the world of romance. Her focus had always been on her desire to travel and find adventure. Was love one of those adventures though? She guessed time would tell. When the rented house was secure it was of littler surprise that Alison move in as well.
La Reid would always be the city that stole a little bit of her heart, and she wouldn't change that for anything. Life settled down for Gidget for a few months, it seemed like perhaps Belgium could be her new home. In so many ways it felt like a dream, which ought to have been a clue for the teen, after all - all dreams come to an end.
It was hard to pin point when everything started to unfold. Maybe they just were not as fit for one another as they had thought, though Gidget found it difficult to figure whom of them to blame. They tried to make it work, a lot longer than they ought to have. She knew it was best to leave before there was nothing left of the beautiful friendship she had grown for a year.
It was august when she packed the last of her things to send back to Manitoba, her parents had promised to hold onto her share of their belongings until she had relocated and was ready for them. They didn't hate each other, so she figured she had that. It would take time though. They promised to write, and she promised to send pictures of the adventures to come. It was a shame how Gidget didn't find herself wishing Alison would come along. Funny how much could change in a year.
It wasn't easy saying goodbye to La Reid. For eleven months she had called the city home. She had made friends of strangers and shared stories with more travelers than she ever could have dreamed. For eleven months she had lived in a dream - a dream she would never forget.
Munich, Germany With the help of her former boss Gidget found herself a job as a magizoologist's field assistant in Germany. It was as if she was actually living out her childhood play adventures with her imagination come to life. The next four months Gidget found herself remembering why she had left Canada, why she had decided to travel the world in the first place! Yes Gidget was back and ready for the world once again. She had gotten too comfortable in the every day life style, she had forgotten just how much nature and the world had to offer her still. Sure, Alison had liked to talk about getting back out and adventuring but they never did, did they? Yes, those four months out in the wilderness of Germany were just what Gidget needed to get back on track.
It was on a hunt for an alleged new breed of German forest wyvern that the teen girl met a young bunch of dragon trainers and dragonologists. Among those she meet there was a British boy - or perhaps Scottish? She never had been good at pinpointing accents. He told her of his family back home, hippogriff farmers, he explained about all the people that came and went from the farm, the more stories the boy told the more light that filled the girl's eyes. Perhaps it was this Jake the dragon trainer that helped Gidget decide just where she was headed in the future. It would be nice to be able to speak English as a first language again after all. But first she would head to France with her magizoologist, following the lead of a rumored mythical vulpini like animal, one unlike any cataloged before.
Paris, FRANCE Gidget could never look at her two months in Paris as a failure. Of course, it seemed like from the start that the vulpini creature was not real, or at least it was not what someone might have thought it to be. They never did spot it out in the wild, no matte how they searched. But in searching Gidget had learned about the winter creatures of France. She had lived in the heart of Paris and explored the outer city and all it had to offer both magic and just pure nature. It was refreshing - cold, but refreshing.
It seemed like a fitting place to part ways with her mentor. Six months she had been his assistant and he had taught her more than she had ever learned in any magical creature and plant class. Well, maybe not more but far more useful than what she could recall. He had promised her a note of thanks in his next book to be published, should he ever manage to actually get published. She was going to miss him, but she could only hope where she went next could lead her to even more adventure.
London, United Kingdom It was March of 2025 that Gidget found herself in the United Kingdom. She spent a few weeks with the Blenkinsop Farm. It was amazing watching the family work with the Hippogriffs. Of course Gidget needed a paying job and the farm couldn't be her home forever. It was easiest for her to move into London - promising to come back to the farm whenever she had the chance. It wasn't too difficult getting hired on as an Owlet trainer, at least compared to some of the other jobs she had tried to talk her way into. It was fair pay and her apartment was humble (small), so the rent was cheap. This was just temporary after all - she knew exactly where to go to find adventure, just after she saved up some money again.
But was this temporary? It would be a lie to say that she missed having a sense of home, a place to call her own. Knowing that she was around the same people day in, and day out - it was comforting to have familiar faces after all. Still her heart begged for adventure - even though it was aching for home.
