Eleanor started to experience visions in the form of horrible night terrors. Eleanor has no real control over when she has large visions and often times can only recall fragments of what she witnessed, these fragments are often confusing to the young witch. She currently is doing her best to learn all about power. Tell me who you are, I'm sure you're some kind of superstar. Free Style Margot Borden was nothing more than the result of bad breeding, at least that is what Gwyneth the matriarch of the Borden family had to say about her great-granddaughter. Margot was nothing more than a stain on the family tree, a squib. Gwyneth knew before everyone else, the daft little girl was useless and if she'd had her way she would have thrown the girl out years before suspensions proved true. Merlin knew breeding with muggles would bring about the end of their family and Margot was all the proof Gwyneth needed of that.
At age eleven Margot was abandoned in Bedford and never thought of again by the Borden family. While ashamed of what she was Margot was not about to give up. For weeks she lived off food discard in rubbish bins but it was the help of a kind elderly couple that gave Margot what she really needed, a family. Margot weaved lies about her true identity, the magical world would never be home to her again.
Seamus Worrall was in no way an extraordinary man. He lived an ordinary life right from the beginning and planned to live an ordinary life till the end. Every plan he made in life was made well in advance, he was not a man who cared for surprises. Seamus enjoyed the simple life, at twenty-three he had bought his first home in a neighborhood with low crime rates. He'd owned his own car since he was eighteen; and he had been working the same job as a bank teller since he was twenty. This was the lifestyle Seamus was content with and it was the lifestyle he was content to live out his days in.
Perhaps if Seamus had known more about Margot when he first met her at a pub when he was out with his mates he might have realized that involving himself with her would throw his carefully planned life completely out of order. Something about strange little Margot caught Seamus' attention, later on Seamus would find himself regretting his choice to pursue the eighteen year old.
It did not take long for Margot to throw a surprise as Seamus in the form of a pink plus sign on a pregnancy test. Wanting to do right by her, Seamus suggested marriage. On April fifth, six months after a haste wedding, at forty-seven minutes past four in the morning Margot and Seamus were met with the first of many cries that would escape their daughter's lips. At first baby Eleanor seemed to be in perfect health, it was a few weeks after bringing their child home that Margot and Seamus noticed something was not quite right about little Eleanor.
All babies cry, but Eleanor seemed to never stop. Her fits lasted for what felt like hours but it was more terrifying for her parents when she didn't cry. When Eleanor's screams feel silent her body was rigid and her gaze dead. Doctors didn't know what was wrong with the baby. The first year was rough on Margot and Seamus, neither had been prepared for parenthood let alone parenthood like this. Constant doctor visits with no answers of what was wrong with their baby. But as Eleanor grew the crying became less, the dead gazed stares happened less often and it seemed that maybe their baby was finally going to lead a normal life. But this was just the clam before the storm.
Eleanor was two and a half when her brother came along, her parents couldn't have been more relived that Benjamin was proving to be nothing like Eleanor had been in infancy. It was two years later when their third child, Joshua, was born that they noticed some concerning behaviors of their eldest.
Eleanor had always seemed to suffer from night terrors, both Margot and Seamus had assumed the child would outgrow them but night after night Eleanor would wake up screaming nonsense. Countless times she had recanted occurrences of violence and terror that baffled her parents. Where were these ideas coming from? The most terrifying of happenings was when Eleanor spoke of a terror that would become of Benjamin. Not understanding what was going on Eleanor was taken to a specialist.
It was at barely five years old that Eleanor was diagnosed with childhood schizophrenia. Anti-psychotic medications and therapy five times a week became the life of young Eleanor. Every third month it was upping of dosage or changing of prescriptions when it seemed the medication had stopped working. Truth was it never worked. Margot was denying the true signs of what was really going on with her child. The strange happenings she described, the vivid dreams, her child was a what she would never be; a witch. Not just a witch though, a witch with the gift of foresight.
Primary school was not an easy time for Eleanor. She had tried her best to be like the other kids, she prayed night after night that the medication would work, that she could be just like everyone else. It didn't take long for the taunting to start, no one wanted to be friends with Weirdo Ellie Worrall.
All she had were her little brothers, of course as they got older even they wanted to keep their distance from Ellie for fear they would suffer the same torment she endured for being crazy. There was one neighbor boy who had been her playmate since she could remember who she considered her only friend; that was until she had gone off to find him one morning in the play lot before school.
"Have you seen Ellie around anywhere?"
"You're not still hanging out with her are you?"
"She's not that bad."
"Yeah right Colin, she's been following you around like a lost puppy since...forever. Can't you just tell her to get lost?"
"It's not that easy. Our dads are friends and I've known her since we were like four."
"Even creepier. She's like your own personal stalker."
"Maybe sometimes, but I'm not just going to tell her to leave me alone, okay? She doesn't have many friends."
"Yeah, because she's a freak!"
"Yeah - sure, right... I'll see you after class, I guess..."
"Meet you out front, mate."
She'd never meant to eavesdrop and had wished she hadn't. A small part of her head known this day was going to come, there had been that dream, that dream where he was no longer there. But like most her dreams, it came true. So at age nine she found herself preparing to battling the world alone, dreaming of living in a castle. It was a shame really because out of all her dreams that was the one she was sure would never come true.
She'd expected that he would be happy to be rid of her. That he would no longer feel the burden of a freak following him around. So when he showed up to her house the two days later she found herself more than confused as he demanded to know why she was avoiding him. As her explanation feel flat it was Colin who took the lead. She'd never seen him so upset, so worried.
She realized now she had made a mistake, that she had quickly judged her friend's words. He explained how it wasn't her that he was done with - that it was everyone else. He told her how they were more alike that she realized, that if everyone thought she was a freak then he was a freak too. And for the first time in her like she finally felt like she wasn't alone.
After ten years of Seamus could take no more of the stress brought on from his daughter's condition. For months Eleanor had been begging him not to go, she told him it would get better, that soon he wouldn't have to deal with her. But Seamus had only even seen Eleanor as an unstable little girl, he would never understand his daughter and her words only helped to drive him further away.
Six months later on her eleventh birthday Eleanor finally received the answers she had needed all her life, the answers her mother had all along but denied. The strangely dressed woman who sat at their table explained it all, or at least enough of it. She was born with magic insider her, magic her mother should have recognized. That September she entered the world her mother was sure she had left behind.
There was a sense of amazement that Eleanor felt when she realized her dreams of Hogwarts castle were actually coming true. Being a witch only explained so much, but it didn't explain how she could know what the future had in store. Still with the buzz of excitement Eleanor also felt a deep fear, would this school be any different from her last? Would she be able to escape the torment and taunts of others students or would she find herself still facing name calling and whispers behind her back?
It was the words of a ratty old hat that finally put the eleven year old at ease. It saw the kindness in her soul, it saw how she was the friendless friend, but not anymore, she was placed in Hufflepuff and met with a table of warm smiles and loud cheers. The hat had placed her where he knew she would flourish the most and with those who would best help her to.
While the hat had sorted her among friends it had not brought an end to the dreams that tormented her at night. It wasn't until the end of the year when an older student asked if there were any seers in her family. While Eleanor was unaware that the ability to see into the future ran in her mother's family she finally was beginning to see the truth, the real truth.
After years of thinking herself to be nothing more than a mental case she knew the truth, she was normal and was merely the result of bad breeding and dumb luck. While she never found a way to control her visions she found herself to be more accepting of them. Her head became clear once she ditched the medications she had relied on for so many years. Eleanor was finally free.
The magical world was something Eleanor was quick to embrace, after years of feeling like an outcast she finally felt as if she fit in. She helped her brother adjust to the change when they each joined her in their own time. Divinations was a class that became her saving grace, after thirteen years she was finally getting the answers she really needed. All that was left was to hope that some how she could find a way to control her gift, or at least better understand it. Let's us all just be friend, And together we can start a new trend.
