What do you do when a man don't love you? He takes the sun from the sky above you How do you fix the damage? How do you break the habit? I never knew you could be so savage A downside to working at Désir meant she had to avoid the majority of the male magical community - at least the part that lived in the city. So on her days off if she wanted a drink with her own kind (magical folk) than she had to travel. Thank Merlin she was a witch. As night was starting to approach Jacq arrived at her location of choice for that night. She was still in her first year out of school so in many ways it felt comforting to walk through the doors of the Three Broomsticks. It felt almost like her school days.
She seated herself at the bar and waited for her drink. While waiting she took the chance to look around, there was many good times here with her peers...and her friends she guessed - not that she had many of those, not the real sort at least. Trust was hard to earn and yet so easy to break. She wasn't here to be bitter though, she was here to enjoy a night out and hopefully not run into a client. Maybe someone from her school days would be here - she knew a few younger years. Or maybe someone else had been feeling nostalgic as well. Of course she guessed she couldn't rule out the chance of meeting a lovely stranger tonight...it was night that was full of possibilities and potential. TAG: @open

His short visit to Hogwarts had served nicely as a reason to see his youngest sisters, after god-knew-how-long they had not seen each other. She had asked him why he never came home anymore, and Quidditch was the right excuse to give every time, even when the practices had not been that intense lately. The idea of family dinner horrified him more than he would like to admit. His parents’ dry humor and intended sarcasm about his “labor” job were not were not always light-hearted. And although the ridiculous attention his older brother, Viktor, received from them no longer bothered him, now that the brothers were on considerably good terms, it still made him a little insecure about his decision to follow his passion for Quidditch.
Leo found himself shivered a little as he walked among the familiarities of Hogsmead. It must have been the chilly wind of spring, and not the thought of his bizarre family that had sent chills down his spine. “A drink to warm up may be a good idea.” He muttered to himself as he pushed the door to The Three Broomsticks open. The welcoming warmth and noises from strangers’ chatting, cups and bottles clicking brought a bit of life to his pale face. It had been two years since his graduation and yet, coming to this place still felt like a special treat. And even in his twenties, the best special treat of them all had always been a butterbeer with all its warmth and tangy sweetness.
The captain of Puddlemere United settled himself at the bar, two seats away from a young woman – courtesy distance, his mother liked to call it. But that distance did not stop him from realizing how young she looked – almost his age if not younger. And in his blurred silver and green memories of the corridors of Hogwarts, he had seen those luscious dark curls.
Leo did not mean to stare, but he could not help it. Not with this newly found nostalgia for his younger days. The happier time, when being uncertain was not a crime.

What do you do when a man don't love you? He takes the sun from the sky above you How do you fix the damage? How do you break the habit? I never knew you could be so savage In his own way he stood out as he entered the establishment. Of course her attention wouldn't turn to him until he seated himself in her proximity. Sipping her butterbeer Jacq took a moment to bask fully in the nostalgia, how many opportunities would she have to enjoy moments like this? Her life was one that lead in solitude, mostly of her own choosing. Yet she still had people she needed to keep impressed in life just like in her school days. Now was not one of those times, or at least it wasn't in that moment. In this moment she could let her guard down at least long enough to enjoy a warm sip of the Three Broomsticks' butterbeer. London had nothing on the Three Broomsticks.
It was hard not to ignore his stare. Jacq was accustom to having eyes upon her though, if she was honest it was something she craved. Why else would she do what she did for a living? Sure there was more to it but it helped that she wanted the attention. Nevertheless, Jacq could feel her lip curl up into a half smirk as she cast her gaze in his direction. Now that he was closer she was sure there was a familiarity to his face. The Rousseau brother did have jawlines that were so very hard to forget. Slinking her way one seat closer she decided to take a moment to learn his face, she'd seen him somewhere besides the green lit common room of their school days.
By now it must have been obvious to both that they each were now staring at one another. Jacq was hardly trying to hide that fact she was staring at the young man. It was almost frustrating that she couldn't recall his given name, only his surname. He had been older than her, barely but older, his face was far more memorable than his name to her. What was it with Slytherins always seeming to know other's surnames and yet rarely knowing the name that made them unique.
"Excuse me, its Rousseau, right? I apologize but I seem to only recall your surname." Delicately she offered her hand to Leo since she had already gone so far as to acknowledge him it was best she make things proper, "Jacqueline, since I believe we never actually were formally antiquated." Yes, the girl who had started as the shy half-blood bookworm only to become just one more ice queen in the house of sliver and green - Jacq was almost positive that Leo had never needed to be introduced to her back in their shared school years. You had to be strong to survive their house though, and sometimes one was the strongest number.
Jacq wasn't going to let her comfort in solitude rule her night though, she had come here because she knew she wouldn't be hassled by some client who figured she was free game if she was out in the real world. No, tonight she was going to enjoy herself - and maybe she was going to enjoy the company of Leo as well. By now her half smirk had softened into a far more comfortable smile "You, though, can call me Jacq."

She was smiling at him. Or smirking, really. Her delicate features shone brightly even in the lowlights of the pub, now that she had moved closer and there was only one seat between them. And all of a sudden, he felt naked under that graceful gaze, as if his soul was being seen right through. He tried searching for a name and failed. He did not know who she was, but somehow she appeared in those distant memories of the past he secretly longed to come back to every now and then. Leo bit his bottom lip, as he habitually did when puzzled. And yet, he could not take his eyes off the young woman. Maybe he was curious as to why he found her so familiar – the Three Broomsticks was a place of memories anyway. Or maybe she was simply so beautiful. And fierce, too. He wondered if she had always been that way – for he would have known such a remarkable girl in his schooling days.
The name Rousseau rolled off her tongue gracefully when she initiated the awaited conversation. But to Leo, all the gracefulness in the world could not make the name an ounce more likable. Even with the softness and weightlessness in her voice, it still sounded so burdensome. That was why he never wanted to associate with it; the news and the public knew not of Leonid Rousseau, only Leonid Sergei the Puddlemere United team captain. She was the first to recognize him as a Rousseau. Had they met before? “Yes, the younger and better looking Rousseau, but please call me Leo,” he grinned playfully and took her hand. “And no need to apologize. I am horrible with names myself.”
Her name quickly registered in his mind. Although it did not ring a bell, he liked the sound of it. It suited her confidence very well. “It is a pleasure to finally make your acquaintance, Jacq.” Such formality tasted quite bizarre on his tongue. He normally would avoid it at all cost, for it reminded him so much of those high teas and sophisticated house parties his family and their friends thoroughly enjoyed. However, at the time being, in the presence of a young woman he barely knew, it felt quite nice to be sophisticated.
“My apologies if I have interrupted your night. I did not mean to be rude by staring. I just thought you were so familiar that perhaps we had met before, maybe during our schooling years.” He finally uttered his confession. “It was such a shame that I could not remember your name when you remembered mine.” His voice was so genuinely apologetic it surprised him. “But I will make sure to never forget it now.”
He wanted to ask if they had ever met. Or talked. But her confirmation that they had never been introduced before made him hold back the urge to question their acquaintanceship. And how in the world could he have missed out on knowing such a remarkable woman?

What do you do when a man don't love you? He takes the sun from the sky above you How do you fix the damage? How do you break the habit? I never knew you could be so savage There was something electric about his touch, or maybe it was just due to the fact she didn't often touch men these days. She didn't pull her hand away quickly though, instead she welcomed his introduction. Leo, yes that did sound familiar if she thought back to 'girl chat' in the school lavatories - the Rousseau brothers where prized among the so called 'noble' girls. 'Which one would you have if you could?'. She rarely partook in voicing when those games were played - no she kept those answers to herself. "I won't contest with you on that matter, Leo." Jacq had never seen his brother in person, Viktor was a graduate by the time she was entering school. Was this a loss - she doubted it. After all her attention was on the man seated beside her.
The grin on Leo's face was so playful, almost boyish in a way. Yes he was a man but something about him seemed as alive as the spirit of a child almost. She wanted to look into his eyes longer to see if they too had the same spark his grin held. Eye contact was difficult though, at least directly. It was an intimacy that she had grown so accustom to avoiding these days - yet in this moment she seemed almost ready to dive right into searching. For now she settled for short glances. The warmth of his brown eyes was tempting but his conversation was more inviting.
Jacq couldn't help but laugh lightly as Leo apologized. It wasn't that his apology didn't sound genuine, and more that he apologized for staring. "Please, there was nothing for you to have interrupted - and your staring was only rude if you find me truly and utterly hideous which is clearly the case I'm sure." She couldn't help but smirk at her own joke, you didn't stare like that when you thought someone was hideous. "Besides, Leo, some women do like the attention," ...and she most definitely was one, "so perhaps I ought to thank you for unintentionally joining me for a drink, or a few, tonight."
In the back of her mind she found herself a little amused about how he had mentioned trying to recall if they had met before. Wouldn't that have just been the perfect start to some sort of fairy-tail romance. Two souls that had meet years ago but that had never gotten the proper start only to fall together on this fated night. It was a shame she didn't believe in that sort of thing though, wasn't it? Still, with a smile like his it wouldn't have been all bad - if love and romance were alive and real.
As for his name...well did she tell him how she remembered? Claim dumb luck? "Maybe I was just lucky, in guessing your name. Or maybe I was one of those strange kids that made it my business to know people's names. Though if I was thorough I would know more than just surnames." He didn't need to know it was because her grandmother had given her the warning of her own mother falling for a spoken for pureblood. Maybe another time, or after a few more drinks. Or never. It really would depend she guessed. She was chatty tonight wasn't she?
"You better not forget it though, I even made it easier for you. So you have to remember otherwise, next time, you'll really feel a fool when I remember and you don't" Of course she was smirking yet again as she said this, she couldn't help it something about his words, they had seemed so sincere and she never knew how to handle it. Still, she hoped he would remember - which almost meant she must have hoped that there was be an opportunity later where her had to remember.
Leo was everything she knew she ought to avoid. A son from a pureblood family that seemed rather keen on it staying pureblood. While it wasn't the dark ages there had been signs and talk for years, it was a bit shameful that she relied so much on rumors for these sorts of matters. Still she had no desire to be anything like her mother - and Leo...well since she never knew her father he was a mirror in the only ways she knew. Yet here she was, talking to him, touching him, smiling at him, teasing him playfully, and finding features of his to call beautiful. It was strange the way nostalgia was seemingly make her feel comfortable - there was no way she could just feel comfortable around him, right?

Her skin felt soft against the callosity of the palm of his hand – the result of gripping brooms for over a decade. The warmth of her fingers lingered even after she had pulled away. It surprised him how a normal handshake could feel so intimate in its own way. He had not felt the warmth of a woman for so long. Had it always been this comfortable, he wondered.
Her smooth, witty comeback to his apology lifted the weight of guilt off his shoulders. He wanted to come up with something equally charming in response to her humour, but the curved lips and rosy cheeks when she smiled caught him off guard. Her weightless laughter made it seem like a dream, almost. What sort of encounter with a stranger could be this light-hearted, if not in a dream? “No, of course it is not the case…” was all he could utter, as if a cat had stolen his tongue. He almost bit his lower lip to keep himself from cornily telling her she was beautiful. They were not in school anymore. He was not trying to impress a girl in Potions class. Although, in a way, it felt like he was. Nostalgia turned people into strange creatures. “Attention is only a natural consequence of splendour.” He pulled off a grin again at her remark about women and attention. “In that case, the next round shall be on me, to celebrate this chance companionship.”
All that boyish anxiety in the presence of an attractive and witty woman suddenly vanished into thin air as she gave the credit of knowing his name to luck. His gaze stopped lingering on her lovely eyes and fell into the foam of his beer sitting quietly on the wooden surface, lest he find something in those warm orbs and make a fool of himself by thinking she was interested – in him, in their shared nostalgia, or anything at all. He had felt almost special when she called him first. That flattering feeling of being acknowledged was so desirable, particularly to a middle child who had spent most of his life proving that he was more than the name he had been born into.
Leo perked up again to meet her gaze as she mentioned she would have known more than surnames had she been thorough. It felt like there was more to the light-hearted statement than she had let on. But he brushed it off quickly before it got a chance to sow a seed of false hope in his soul. Only a few sips of butterbeer and he lost his soberness already? “That was a very good guess then.” He smiled.
When her full lips curved into a playful smirk, he found himself unable to remember what he had been so disappointed about a minute before. He should not have read too much into it. Chance encounters like this were meant to go undemanding. “Don’t worry. Next time we see each other, I will call you first. I promise.” He assured her with a mischievous wink. Next time he saw her, there would be no blurred memories of those luscious dark curls in the corridors of Hogwarts. He would remember the way her rosy lips curved, the warmth of her touch and the sound of her voice. His memories of her, next time, would be vivid. ”Jacqueline.” He did not mean to say her name aloud, although it only came out like whisper, almost dissolved in all the surrounding noises. Leo realized that he liked the sound of it more than he would be willing to admit. If only he had known it before this night. And he smiled.
”Do you come here very often?” He spoke again. ”This is my first time back to the Three Broomsticks in a while. I never realized how nice it is here until now, after two years of crowded and hasty London.”

What do you do when a man don't love you? He takes the sun from the sky above you How do you fix the damage? How do you break the habit? I never knew you could be so savage As her hand nursed the butterbeer she was slowly sipping she found herself thinking about the contrasting feel between the glass and his hand. Hands like his seemed uncommon - at least for one who came from a family like his. Calloused as if he was some sort of laborer - or maybe a hobby was to blame. A small part of her mind had to wonder just who had Leo Rousseau become after his graduation. Of course, maybe he too was wondering who she had become - and was that something she wanted him to know, yet? It was rare she felt shy about what she did, about who she was. What was this enchantment he was had on her? Boyish grins, butterbeer, and a memories - it was a wonder the effect they could have on a person. The effect he seemed to have on her.
Even though she had been confident that Leo didn't find her unattractive there was still a wave of relief that washed over her as he confirmed it was not the case here. In fact as she focused on him and the words he spoke she could feel her cheeks flush with heat - was it his words or was it just a side effect of that grin she was starting to feel rather keen towards. Still there was something about the way he spoke, a hesitance - or thoughtfulness? He seemed to pick his words with intentions yet - there was something else behind the way he spoke that was drawing her in. She wanted to hear more, to understand more.
Something about this moment made it seem like reality was stepping back for a moment. They always said that nostalgia was a powerful thing, she was starting to think that tonight might be some sort of proof. Could someone be that easy to be around? A former slytherin none the less? How was he even a Rousseau, besides the manners, she almost doubted that he was. Except - he was - no matter how baffling it seemed. Had he always been like this? Maybe it was more of a shame than she had thought in the beginning that they had merely been passing ships back in their school days.
"It would be rude to turn down a drink from such a charming man, I accept - and because I couldn't think of a way I would rather spend my night now." Maybe it was too friendly, it almost felt too friendly but the worlds just slipped out - truths could do that. She didn't even have to make an effort to smile, not just smirk. She already felt a bit foolish as she realized she couldn't help it, in that moment it felt near impossible to not smile. Almost as impossible as it was to not keep staring at him between her slips of butterbeer.
She would deny the way her pulse quickened at this new gaze mixed with his praise and that smile. It would be blamed upon the atmosphere, for now. But like a little fool she found herself mirroring his smile, "I guess its a good thing you have such a handsome face that is so hard to forget than, names are useless if you can't place a face..." It sound better than admitting his jawline was the first thing she remembered about him.
'Jacqueline' - the way seemed to whisper her name to himself, or had is simple slipped out of his lips unintentionally? The way he said her name made it seem as if it already sat comfortably on his tongue - resting until he needed to call. Still the way it had slipped out like a breath made her blush for reasons she couldn't explain in the moment. It did roll off his tongue ever so nicely. There was little doubt that her face was rather flushed, he had caught her off guard - even if her hadn't intended anything. It took a moment to decide to slip into the final chair that sat between them - what was she playing at? Honestly Jacq was a little unsure her motives, this wasn't how her typically acted with others. She couldn't help but feel drawn into him though, so there was sat right beside him. Well, he was buying her a drink, and they were no longer strangers. It surely made sense.
"Sometimes, if I come out I like to come here. I don't come out a lot honestly, or I go to places I can take my dog." Yes, most places were men would be she often preferred to have her dog - but she didn't feel that need, not right now, and not with Leo. Not that she would mind having Diablo with her he was a lovely dog but she felt safe in the company she was keeping. Such a strange but enjoyable feeling.
"Tonight, is turning out to be one of my more enjoyable nights here...so I guess its a good thing I decided to come out." How was it that someone who she had basically been a strange some how made a night seem like so much more? Was she getting to carried away, getting too comfortable? She had her fears for good reasons - so why was it that with each word he spoke his voice became clearer and that voice in her head telling her to hurry and bring this to a close got quieter and quieter.
"London has some lovely parks....terrible bars, but lovely parks." It was a short remark, not that she was thinking about any particular park, or the company she would care to have at that park. She had to wonder if he liked dogs though...not that he wanted to meet her dog, or that she wanted that. She needed another sip of her butterbeer, or a few.

For a moment, he thought he saw her cheeks coloring. But then he quickly blamed it on the makeup industry. Such a beauty like her must have heard all the praises out there that they had become rather dull now.
He wished he could have welcomed her remark on him being a “charming man” with the same effortlessness, and without beaming from ear to ear like a child. Her tone was so welcoming it almost felt like they had known each other long before. Had she been someone else, had she not known him as a Rousseau from Hogwarts, perhaps it would have been possible. And had she known more of him than a surname back when they were in school, “charming” would perhaps not have been her choice of word. His parents had made sure their disappointing second son at least lived up to his pure bloodline. While Viktor had always been the one in spotlight, they both had been given equal amount of indoctrination in behaving like a pureblood, and avoiding tainting such purity by associating with the inferiors. Only until he became part of Puddlemere United, breaking free from the name Rousseau, could he truly realize there was more to a person than his blood. He was only allowed to be either a Rousseau, or a blood traitor condemned for eternity.
But there she was, calling him a Rousseau and a charmer with that melodic voice of hers, like it was the most natural thing in the world. As if with her, he could be anything he wanted. A Rousseau, a blood traitor, a stranger or a friend. He had never realized he craved this newly found comfort so much. Maybe it was not such a bad thing that they had not truly met until now. No histories to dwell on. No reputation to uphold.
Leo laughed lightly as she regarded his “handsome” face. “You’re right. Beautiful things are hard to forget. I will never forget you now, Jacqueline.” He said, tilting his head to a side with a wide smile. She told him he could call her Jacq, but her name was too lovely he would hate to omit even just a syllable. Or maybe he just liked saying it a lot so he would not forget, although forgetting her would not be at all easy now.
And when he said her name again in that accidental whisper after the promise he had made to call her first next time they ran into one another, he liked it even better. This time, as his gaze fell on her lovely face, he was sure the blush on her cheeks was not from makeup. With no particular reason at all, it pleased him. What a nice little discovery that she could get caught off guard sometimes, despite the usual effortless manners.
He watched her gracefully close up the final gap of the seat between them with both delight and surprise, although he wished it had been him who had the guts to move closer to her. Close enough for his forearm, now bare with the long sleeves of his plain black button-down shirt rolled up, to accidentally brush lightly against hers when he put his drink down after taking a sip. It was feather-light and electrifying at the same time as his skin briefly felt the comforting heat again. Reluctantly he rolled down the sleeves. They said the warmth of a woman was addictive.
He was grateful his attention was captured by the mention of her dog. It surprised him a little when she admitted that she was not much of an out-goer. He had thought she must have been a social butterfly, with such great confidence and grace. But the thought of a small pet brought a smile to his face as it reminded him of his younger sister Valeriya. Everything about her was lovely and sweet, except for her crazy pet dragons that he never got a long with. “My sister has pets too, but they breathe fires and always try to rip me apart with their claws. Hopefully your dog will not try to do the same if we ever meet.” He laughed, trying to suppress the urge to shiver a little when recalling all the times his sister’s dragons tried to kill him. Despite having a Tchaikovsky for a mother, Leo had no Tchaikovsky in him at all.
He turned to look at her again as she told him the night was one of her more enjoyable nights. For no reason at all, he felt a little flattered, as if he was one of the contributing factors. But above all, he was happy she was enjoying her time with him as much as he was with her. How bizarre. They barely knew each other, except for the unreliable names.
“I must agree with you on the bars.” He giggled in approval. “But the parks of Paris are a lot nicer. Probably because there is more sunshine, I suppose.” He had seen them in a trip to France for a Quidditch game. “But I can be biased. Rousseau is a French name, after all. Then again, so is Jacqueline.” He winked playfully.
And again, for no reason at all, he pictured her standing in luxurious sunlight, her dark curls glowing, her smile so blinding bright. He thought he would like that, too, aside from Paris parks and many things.

What do you do when a man don't love you? He takes the sun from the sky above you How do you fix the damage? How do you break the habit? I never knew you could be so savage With their current situation it was hard not to entertain the thoughts that came along with their lack of interaction until this night. Was it her to blame, or had he too played a roll in their lack of meeting? Maybe he had thought of little as she thought of purebloods, maybe he thought even less. It seemed plausible, yet here he was now entertaining her. Of course it could have all been her as well - it wasn't as if she had been trying to claim one of the Slytherin nobles like the desperate girls who hoped to be the future wife. Wasn't she some what like one of those girls now? Sitting here almost begging for compliments. No, begging wasn't was she was doing - it was more like providing opportunities. Besides he seemed more than willing to give the compliments. She was caving his attention though, and that was becoming harder to deny the longer this went on.
The stir in her chest was harder to deny when she watched her words cause his face to slip into an ear to ear grin. Damn his boyish look, the way he could be a man and yet still capture that childlike innocence in a grin. It would be a shame when the magic of the night wore off and she realized this was likely a rare moment that might never happen again. With him, or maybe with anyone else. So for now, she ought to just enjoy it. Enjoy him. Leo Rousseau, a man she was quickly becoming curious about.
While she thought for a minute she might have the upper hand he proved otherwise. It was one thing to be called beautiful, it was something else to be told you were now unforgettable. There was really no way she could face him after a statement so bold. Surely if he was seated any closer he would be able to feel the heat that radiated through her cheeks. It didn't help matters her name sounded so nice in his mouth. "And I will never tire of you telling me I am beautiful." ...or saying her name, but she didn't need to feed his ego that much - yet. Even if a part of her was tempted. Instead she would just secretly hope he would keep taking opportunities to say it; he made it sound as if she meant something.
It was disheartening a little when he rolled down his sleeve cutting off the small amount of contact they were sharing. Electric connections could take their toll she guessed. A taste seemed to lead to a craving and than what happens when you are cut off? Well she had gotten a taste and was quickly becoming cut off. In a way Jaqc felt frantic for a moment - had he rolled his sleeve down to escape the light touches, to escape her? It was confusing how she found herself worried about this, why was she worried? She drew her arm in closer to herself, just in case her touch had some how offended.
But than there was talk of fire and claws. Jacq cast a puzzled look at his mark. "What sort of pets does your sister keep?" Her eyes felt wide but still there was a smile on her lips, shock and curiosity with a hint of amusement. "You poor dear, you sound as if you've had nothing but bad encounters with your sister's pets...but Diablo is a sweet boy, so long as you behave when you come around." She smirked a little at a few thoughts that crossed her mind, maybe she should have picked different words. Still Jacq wondered what dog he must have pictured her's to be. Did he think of a large guard Akita? Or was he picturing her with some toy something? Maybe if he knew what she did for a living he would have guessed her dog wasn't just some sort of companion animal. That was something he didn't need to know - not yet. Not when things where nice and simple, now when he seemed to enjoy her company so well. He wouldn't be so keen on her once he knew more. She needed to savor this while it lasted.
As Leo mentioned his surnames origin it dawned on Jacq that he didn't knows her's. Maybe he had guessed from her given name, or maybe he hadn't given it a thought that she too was part french. It was little funny, the small similarity the shared some how seemed bigger in a way - was it important to her that they have common grounds?
"It is, isn't....so is Talbott, along with Jacqueline..." The two things she was left by her father. Funny, she was the bastard daughter and yet she was the child that carried his name. It was strange to think about but she had never actually been to France, never explored the country where half of her came from. There was so much she didn't know about the man who caused her orphanage - who created her life only to tear it apart. A shadow of a person who almost didn't even seem real to her, how could he or her mother when she had never gotten a chance to know them for herself? She didn't want to think about her parents, or anyone she was related to for that matter. Leo was a far better thought than anyone else at this moment.
"Are you attempting to to whisk me off to the city of romance, Leo?" Her tone and look were playful - and yet...was a part of her actually entertaining that it might be a thought? Something about the way he so casually spoke of Paris though, was he really thinking about her and Paris? It wasn't a thought she minded really, assuming this wasn't just a front. Was she really enjoying his company that much that she had already decided she didn't mind him playing with the idea of escorting her out of country - to a park. "You'd have to play tourist with me and take me to the Eiffel tower though."
As she gazed at his face she couldn't avoid getting captivated in the way he looked. What was he thinking about? The look upon his face seemed as if he was somewhere very nice - she couldn't help but savor a moment in his warm eyes. Yes where ever he was, surely it was lovely.
He was lovely. Jacq couldn't stop herself from reaching out and lightly drawing her fingers down his jaw. It was a mistake on her part, she was feeling far too comfortable in this atmosphere they had created together. Their own little world in this bar. She did her best not to let her touch linger, no matter how tempted she was to keep the connection.
"I imagine you smile at all the ladies like this." Her words should have sounded harsh, yet they didn't. Instead her tone had an air of doubt - she would never dare call it hope - doubt that he did look at all the girls like. Maybe it was the way he looked at a some girls, not all, just some - and her. Boys like him didn't smile like that just for girls like her. Yet, she hoped, didn't she?

Like it would help. That thin layer of cotton separating her skin from his when he rolled down his sleeves. But it was the only control he had left, before he gave into his desire and yearn for her touch and her comforting warmth. Control was all he wanted, and he told himself to be relieved when she drew her arm away. Yet he was disappointed in a mysterious way. In the distance he had unintentionally created. Or perhaps just in his faint-hearted self. So he took another sip of his drink, hoping to swallow away all this strange anxiety or to loosen his own grip of control.
But somehow, their conversation switched to a different direction with the mention of pets and went back to the light-hearted, undemanding feeling that they had started. Except, in this newly closed up distance, her smile was more vivid to his eyes than ever. Her full lips seemed soft as rose petals; through his stolen glances, he could almost feel it. He wondered if they would taste slightly bitter with a hint of tangy sweetness like butterbeer. Maybe his lips would taste the same too, given their similar choice of beverage for the night. Had she not asked him a question, God knows how far he would have travelled into those scandalous thoughts. ”You know, just regular everyday normal dragons.” The utter pride was there in his voice, unconcealed even when his tone was playful and almost sarcastic. All the dislike he had for the dragons could not lessen how proud he was of his talented sister. She was not supposed to be a Rousseau. She was a Tchaikovsky at heart. And he was neither.
The revelation of the name Jacqueline had given her dog took him aback a little. Diablo. Of course he was not that proficient in Spanish, but the name rang a bell and somehow he could remember its meaning. “A Devil for a friend.” He remarked with a faint smile, trying to hide his puzzled look. All of a sudden, it occurred to him that she was more than just beautiful, with all that complexity and a hint of darkness to seek companionship in the devil. Metaphorically or literally. And above all, she was not an angel. Then again, neither was he. ”I think he and I will get along just fine.” It was thrilling – the feeling of turning his back to heaven.
Bit by bit, she drew him a picture of her life through names. Somewhere in his memories of overhearing business conversations between his father and his partners, he had heard of the name Talbott. If his father knew it then it must have been quite an influential one. But there was not only one Talbott family in France or England, for sure. And so what she was a Talbott – whatever that was supposed to mean. Tonight, he was not a Rousseau, and she was only Jacqueline. He thought he liked that, among butterbeer and many things. “My name cannot compete with that much French-ness for sure. I suppose Leonid is four thousand miles too far from being French enough.” The rough distance between Russia and France that his mother had once told him about. He laughed lightly at his own joke and the silly word “French-ness” that he made up. It must have been the alcohol. He remembered using it once back in school, when he was trying to be humorous to a girl from Beauxbatons. All of a sudden, he felt like a teenager, naively trying to impress a girl for the first time. So effortlessly, Jacqueline had turned him into a mess without him realizing it.
Her playful mention of Paris amused him. He almost forgot they called it the city of light when she named it romance, although romance had a nicer ring to it. “If I did, would you be my La Parisienne?” He said in response to her suggestion of playing tourist. Parisian women were muse to many artists. And he was not an artist. But those brown eyes full of mischief when she looked at him made him wish he had been able to capture them in a drawing, or in lines of poetry even. Oh France and her ladies.
His easy smile faded a little as he felt her fingers against his skin. Her touch was burning in its own gentle way. It was so delicate that he held his breath, for fear that a slight movement would make it vanish. The line he had drawn earlier became blurrier as her fingertips moved down his jaw. And he found himself leaning closer like an ephemera drawn to fire. His hands somehow found their own way to her shoulders, though he did not dare to hold on to tightly. In his hazy sight, he saw his own reflection on her brown eyes – absolutely bewitched. Those fleeting thoughts of the softness of her lips came flooding back to his mind. For no reason at all, he wanted to find out so badly what they tasted like. His face was only a few inches away from hers when she spoke. Her warm breath brushed against his skin. He craved her warmth so. “No, not all the ladies,” he replied slowly as he leaned in a little. “Just one.”
“Jacqueline.” He called her name again. And he smiled.

What do you do when a man don't love you? He takes the sun from the sky above you How do you fix the damage? How do you break the habit? I never knew you could be so savage The way Leo spoke of his sister was somewhat amazing to Jacq. In the few words he had spoken the adoration he held for her was so clear in his tone and in his face. Being an only child she never experienced such pride. Well, she guessed she had a half-brother but Borgia was only a brother by blood - she was keen to not get wrapped up in whatever life he lived. Nevertheless she struggled to hide the shock - dragons? Maybe if she had known more of his family history it wouldn't have been such a surprise to hear. The creatures were dangerous - deadly really was the proper term - yet some wizards dared to work with the beasts, and his sister was one of those brave ones. "Amazing." the word was more of a breath, but what else could she say. 'regular everyday dragons' Goodness the charm on this lad.
She was eyeing him a little, he was not making this easy for her and it was ever so frustrating - simply because she was enjoying it. He was making her thoughts rather complicated. There was this new found need to keep pushing back thoughts of touching him, getting closer - all of it. She hadn't even finished her butterbeer and yet her head already seemed to be spinning. Thrilling and terrifying all at once. Yet how the terror seemed to fade away when ever she caught sight of his face, that smile, those eyes - was he really something to fear? He was Leo, and maybe if only for tonight that was all he had to be.
It was fleeting but she swore for a moment she caught a quizzical look of sorts on his face. Jaqc had to smirk, was he starting to gather there was something else to her? Or was he now questioning what sort of dog she owned. Regardless she had to smile as at his words. She offered a slight - and rather improper - shrug and her smirk. Maybe she had named him the devil but he was more of her angel, who calls their protection dog angel though? Maybe one day she would tell him the story...or a version of the story, how she got him, why. That didn't exactly matter at the moment though. "I agree though...I think he will like you, I like you."
Was she trying to sound like a teenager falling for the handsome boy? It wasn't like she could - right? Women like her didn't catch feelings, or even relationships - especially not with boys with a family that mattered in this world. So why was it she seemed to keep forgetting that each time he flashed her one of those smiles or when she would catch a glimpse of his warm eyes? How was it that she seemed to disregard everything she had thought about men like him, simply because he was Leo... Again she had to wonder if some how he had enchanted her, no one had ever had this effect on her. He was lightening, she could either let it strike or hide. She never had been scared of storms before though. She shivered a little as she contemplated what it would be like to get caught up in his electric storm.
While she had let out a giggle at this made up word, French-ness, it was as if her breath was caught in her throat. Leonid - his proper name. Visions of stars across the night skies filled her mind. Maybe she didn't know its Russian origins, but she knew of the stars that fell late in the year. Leonid. He wasn't just Leo. She mulled over his name shortly biting at her lip at she did so. He had held out on her, yet it felt worth it - she knew his name now, and she very much liked it.
"Leonids - the meteor showers, they fall a week or so after my birthday...." She was fixated on his name, she couldn't even make a joke about his made up word. She looked at him with a sort of new fascination. Did he know about the November meteors? "Leonid." Her own falling wishing star. At least, for the night. In some ways it felt as if they were even now too - now maybe she too would have some hold over him the way he could when he spoke her name. Even if that sort of power was in one's head.
Jacq was a bit taken back as she waked if she would be his la Parisienne if he did take her. It would be hard to deny the quicken of her heartbeats and the flush of warmth to her cheeks. Of course a number of men had asked to be their - countless things, muse, love, inspiration - yet her reaction to Leo's words were unique. She'd not expected him to ask her to be his anything.
"Would you have me?" Her words soft, almost as if she hoped he might not hear. Some how the words felt heavy coming out of her lips, just what was she trying to ask? Or why? She knew her answer should have been no. She shouldn't have let it get this far and yet there she was meeting his face with her finger tips and wondering if his mouth tasted as sweet as the words that dripped from it.
In the back of her mind she was starting to wonder how long this could keep up. Was there any way Leo would look at her like this, entertain her like this, if he knew the truth? If he knew who she was, what sort of person she could be...if he knew the number of men who had looked upon her. She'd never thought of her job as shameful, she still didn't, but she knew - girls like her didn't belong with men like him. She just wanted tonight...tonight she wanted to be his Jacqueline - the beautiful girl who captivated his attention. Surely, just tonight would be enough for her, just tonight.
It truly felt as if they were in their own world in that moment. They were so close now - she could smell his scent so clearly and it made it harder to think. The butterbeer was most obvious, she was curious if it was cologne or just what he used to wash? She wasn't sure but she could have swore there was a hint of broom polish in his bouquet. He made it harder to think. She was growing tired of thinking though, it was so much easier to give into this comfort, this rush. She wanted to believe him when she said there was just one he looked at like this. He was good, really good. Most girls would have likely given into him right in that moment - even she was struggling not to. As he called her name again she felt as if she was spinning again.
"Leonid." She couldn't stop the smile from spreading across her lips. They shouldn't be doing this. Yet she didn't pull away from his touch. She ought not to be doing this. Was there that much harm in a taste? They had already become lost in their own nostalgic atmosphere - and it was all to clear in his eyes their thoughts were one in the same. The way his glance would linger on her lips and than her eyes. It would have been easy to close the few inches between them herself - to steal a taste of his lips - but it was too easy.
She wanted to taste his kiss - but she had already come to him, it was his turn. It was a risk, maybe he wouldn't kiss her but she felt rather confident that he wanted to find out for himself as well. Jacq leaned in closer, she could feel his warmth against her own cheeks as she fought the urge to take his face in both her hands. Never had she ever felt such a strong desire to kiss another person, never like this.
It only takes one lightening strike to start a fire and fires like this could be very dangerous.

He wanted to ask her if she liked a lot of things. Or a lot of people. Other than him, of course. But he kept it to himself as he pressed his lips together, trying to hide a flattered smile. He did not want to seem too eager lest he embarrass himself by making assumptions he was not supposed to. But the way she said it – that she liked him without any particular reasons – was so natural as if it was the simplest thing in the world. Could it have been one of those polite things people said to one another in generic conversations? And was it meant to feel so personal, almost dangerous? She seemed to know the exact things to say to push the line he had drawn earlier – last bit of control – further and further. He was so drawn to the softness of her voice it was almost sinister. Maybe he would hate himself when the morning came and the alcohol wore off. For now, he just wanted to dive deeper. And get lost in his own desires if he had to, for once. In the most bizarre way, she had become his insanity as well as his clarity.
A hazy anxiety rose in his chest as she bit her lip after knowing his proper name. His gaze drifted to the palm of his hands as to avoid her look. Leo prayed the delayed revelation had not repelled her, although he knew it was unfair for she had told him her proper name before allowing him to shorten it. It had not been his intention to keep it from her until this moment, he had simply been very unimpressed with the name given to him since birth. The name, alongside with “Viktor” and “Valeriya”, was perhaps nothing but his Russian mother’s own way of expressing her control over the family. Even when her children carried the French Rousseau blood, she made sure they did not forget they were also part of the Russian Tchaikovsky – the empire she could not rule because she had been born a woman – and certain expectations that came with it. Her ambitions were never intended to be ambiguous. She, too, wanted to have an empire of her own – no lesser than the Tchaikovsky – with her children groomed to be champions. Metaphorical champions, of course. Veronica Tchaikovsky had hardly a heart to care about those Quidditch Championships her second son was always so hyped up about.
Despite all the weight and burden of the name, she somehow found a way to make it sound light as feather when it escaped her rosy lips. Leo… no, Leonid felt something burst out under his skin, right in his chest where the heart was. Energy filled his veins and quickened his heart so much he could hardly breathe. She called his name, creating a long-awaited spark in the middle of the dark nebulas of his soul. The feeling was just as powerful as the birth of a star. In those brown eyes clear as the cloudless winter sky, he could almost see the meteors. Burning so brightly in darkness before falling into the open arms of Death. Leonid was not a Russian child nor was he a French son. Leonid was a falling star. It was almost too poetic. Had his mother thought of the meteor showers when she named him? Had she had such pure eyes like this young woman he was so intrigued by? “No one has ever told me about them.” He admitted, watching the way her pretty face being overwhelmed with this new fascination. “No one has ever seen it that way.” His orbs were half concealed, darkened behind the lowered upper eyelids and the rows of lashes; their brown shade turned cold for a quick moment. In his mind, his awareness of the lack of history in their acquaintanceship and the fact that they barely knew each other. Maybe he should not have made such personal comments. But he could not help wanting to surrender his heart to this new comfort. Even when it meant selling his soul to the devil? Maybe. If it was a mind game, if she was someone sent from hell to capture his soul, then heaven could not save him now. He knew it was true when she called him again. “But somehow I am not surprised that even stars can’t help falling for you.” His lips curved into a gentle smile at the revelation that the stars fell a week or so after her birthday.
His smile widened as he watched her react to his improper request of her to become his la Parisienne. He liked it when her cheeks redden. The addition of color made her complexion ever more irresistible. Her response surprised him a little as he had been expecting a “no”, although the faintness in her voice suggested the baffled feelings he had somewhat foreseen. What normal lady would feel fine with such a scandalous invitation? But then again, could “normal” be applied to her? She was beyond all the mundane ordinaries. And he would not be shocked if it all had been just a dream. “How can I ever say no?”
Yet, it was what every nerve in his body was doing – screaming voicelessly the most alerting “no”, but even that could not stop him from leaning closer to her when he felt her touch on his skin. The voice of his last bit of sanity became buzzing nonsense when she called his name again. The line between them was blurred out by the sight of her beautiful smile. All it would take was a slight movement of his body and he would be able to find out what he had been dying to know – the taste of her lips. His eyelids brushed lightly against the bridge of her nose as they fluttered shut. He tilted his head to one side, for better access. All he had to do was to give in.
But the uneasiness in his stomach would not settle. Even with his eyes closed, he could still see the neon red sign read “danger”. Sirens howled inside his head. He was not supposed to do this. Not like this. Not here. Not now.
Perhaps, not with her.
His reason would not have it, even when his heart was already imprisoned by her charm and beauty. He could not explain the feeling. It was almost like a premonition of an unwanted heartache that he would better live without. Yet he knew it would pain him forever if he turned away from her. He could not, after all.
“Jacqueline.” He muttered her name as he found himself pressing his lips against her soft cheek. “Jacqueline.” His voice lowered as he kissed her temple. He then took her small hand and brought it to his lips so they would meet her knuckles in a feather-light kiss. “My la Parisienne.”
He took one last glance at her soft lips with a hint of remorse in his smile before his eyes met hers again.
“Would you say no if I said ‘let’s get out of here’?” The hoarseness in his voice was subtle. But it was there as if he was cursing himself for voicing another scandalous request. But he was getting weary of the curious glances from other folks at the pub. If only they could run to a place one they knew, away from those nosy eyes. His eyes stayed fixed on her, anticipating her slightest reaction. He was ready for anything. Even if it was going to be a slap in the face.

What do you do when a man don't love you? He takes the sun from the sky above you How do you fix the damage? How do you break the habit? I never knew you could be so savage In some way Jaqc felt as if she was watching a super nova unfold in the man before her - and it was beautiful. She was caught in his gravity - could she pull away if she had tried? Did she even realize how overwhelming all this was, or would that be tomorrow's fate? She didn't care to think on it. Something about their time together felt fleeting - as if at any moment it would end. Of course, everything ends in time - she wanted to hold on to this moment though.
Part of her felt a little embarrassed to even have mentioned the meteors. Her embarrassment seemed to grow when he spoke of no one else making the connection with his name and the stars. Ladies ought to not waste their time on silly things like star gazing, he must have thought it foolish she even knew such a fact. She wasn't sure what he was thinking when his eyes cast downwards. Jacq could feel the anxiety building inside her as she awaited his words - yet when he spoke them she wasn't sure she'd been ready to hear them.
It was a bold statement to make, that was if he was trying to make a statement. His tone, his smile, could it all just be a game? He surely didn't fall for girls like her, let alone - her. So why did she want him to? It seemed like madness to think he could come to care for her in such a manner - maybe if he never knew more about her, never knew she wasn't worth his time. Still it was a thought she couldn't stop as she looked into his eyes and watched his lips curve up into the smile that made her heart flutter.
"Just one, I'd be happy with having one fall just for me. Leonid." She hadn't meant to say it, it was hard not to get caught up in the moment really. She'd been thinking it with the way he spoke though, how could she not think about him falling for her now? Was it truly a potential? In so many ways he was reminding her of Bragi, a Norse god of poetry - his words so captivating to her, entrancing in ways she'd never experienced. But did she think she could be his Idun? It never did end well for Idun when it came to Bragi...a poet with such fancy words was hard for any lady to say no to after all. So...just how much did he reminder her of Bragi?
Feeling his lashes brush against her skin made her shiver in anticipation as her own eyes slowly fluttered shut. She couldn't help but inhale in a sharp manner as his lips pressed to her cheek. In that moment nothing mattered to Jacq except the feeling of his lips and face against her own. His skin was rougher than her own, a trait among men, but his lips felt soft much like she had thought and hoped they would - but their taste still remained a mystery. She might have applauded him on his control - if it wasn't mildly frustrating that her lips felt cold while her cheek and temple where ablaze. Regardless as she watched him take her hand and lightly kiss her knuckles she found herself entirely captivated by him.
His kissed had ended far too early for her liking, she was also forgetting where they were. It was hard not to pout as she felt his lips parting from her knuckles. Before she could ask why he looked at her in such a way - fearing the worst for a moment she couldn't help but wonder if he was ready to depart from her - but he spoke and her fear was quickly put to ease. It wasn't a request that came with innocent thoughts. There were only so many ways this could go - so which would it be?
Her pride was telling her no, but the flood of blood to her heart told her she would be more upset to pass up on the spark they had ignited. She was prepared to burn - at least that was what she kept telling herself as her mind became tangled in thoughts of him. It felt impossible to bring herself to say no though, even thinking no felt like a sin against herself. No would mean this would end, and it was already fated to end wasn't it - if she was going to live with knowing she had met this spark she might as well embrace the entire fire.
Was he starting to think less of her? No doubt she was starting to seem less like the proper lady and more...like the person she was. Someone who was below him in so many ways. Would he wonder if she did this with just anyone? She didn't but...how many men were 'in love' with her, how many had offered her money just to gaze upon her in smoke filled rooms under colored lights? Would he still call her name, would he still call her his la Parisienne? Letting him take her could be as damaging to her as staying.
In all honestly her life was cold - leather, lace, silk, and metal - it all seemed cold to her. Even in school her heart iced over, you couldn't be hurt if you never allowed it. Yet with each racing beat of her heart tonight she could feel the warm blood rushing through her body and she forgot how cold everything could be. Leo had brought these feelings about although Jacq struggled to get her head around how. It seemed impossible as things such as fate and love were just romanticized fairy-tails - so why was she wondering if their hearts were beating one in the same? What had caused them to be so drawn to one another?
If you were going to go for something though, you went for it in whole. No doubt. It was one reason she was a slytherin, you didn't leap blindly. It couldn't end here she wasn't ready to let go yet. They'd gone too far already, this wasn't her - she didn't connect with others but in that moment she wanted little more. She had taken more time to answer than she planned too and found herself looking away from him for a brief moment. It wasn't as if she could gather her thoughts in the short time, maybe it was courage.
There wasn't any turning back now, not in Jacq's mind. They had crossed all of her personal lines already - slowly she met his eyes with his, it was hard not to just take the kiss she was beginning to feel desperate for. She moved in closer to him once again her hand moved to his face - not in a slap - tenderly she held his face as she drew her's in, but her lips didn't meet his instead they lingered near his ear.
"Take me, Leonid." she whispered the words softly to him, maybe she could have picked a less scandalous sounding response but it felt appropriate to his rather scandalous request - besides, wasn't she his la Parisienne? She lingered closely pressing her lips into a soft kiss on his jawline, she couldn't help herself. She didn't let her lips linger nor the hand that cradled his other cheek. It was almost painful to move back from him, but, this wasn't the place. The crowd becoming harder to forget now.
Maybe she was more of her mother than she realized. TAG: LEONID SERGEI ROUSSEAU NOTES: you gave me shivers! idk if I can handle the feels of these two - you already kill me each post xD
