Over the winter Jake had arranged with his father to buy a small potion of the farm that wasn't actively being used. Sure all of the farm was used as the animals had room to roam but Barnabas Blenkinsop understood his son needed to take the next step in his life. For Jake this meant building himself a home. Now there was no shame in still living on the farm, not in Jake's eyes. Everyone knew that he took after their father more than Matthew and it was almost unspoken that Jake would likely take over the farm when their father and mother no longer could tend it themselves. That was a long ways away though. Still Jake had no desire to live too far from the family farm, even if he had to travel constantly to work with dragons. His life was still split - working with the dragons and Ria, and than working at home, sometimes also with Ria. He was keeping quiet about building the house, not that he had to explain why - much like his feelings for Ria it was obvious his intent.
Since he was young Jake knew he wanted a life like the one his parents hand. A cozy farm house, wife, kids, hippogriffs, and of course - dragons. His wants were simple, and yet some how the young man still seemed to struggle to go after the life he had dreamed of for all his life. No more though, it was why he made the deal with his father, it was why he spent his free time designing and building the new house by hand. It was for her of course, not just himself. He would never be able to offer her money and the fancy life she came from, but he could give her a cozy farm house on the hills they had used to play together in and watch the hippogiffs from.
Now even though Matthew was not as much the farmboy that Jake turned out to be all Blenkinsop men knew how to do hard labor (thank Merlin they were not muggles than it would actually be hard). Matt was his best friend, not just his brother. He had told him the things he had done that he was ashamed of, admitted to the feelings he had for a girl who was never meant to be a part of his world - and yet fate said otherwise. It was why he had asked Matt to help him with this project - plus Matt had owed him for when he assisted Matt in the painting.
Highwind, Jake's hippogriff was out in the field with him today along with the horse Jake had rode from the main barn out to his field. It was a weekend so Jake knew Matt wouldn't have too much of a struggle to make some time to lend him a hand for a few hours. It had been a while since they had some brother time as well. When his elder brother finally arrived the wavy haired man grinned from ear to ear, "Look what the hippogriff dragged in...."
