Free Style Berkshire, England, it was the place where a boy met a girl while living abroad. Teodore McConnell, a herbologist had met Ivorey Adair. Other than a first name and the fact that his father had been a herbologist was all that little Riley had known of his father growing up. Ivorey and Teodore had married fast and quickly had been joined by not one but two boys. The marriage hadn't lasted long, Teodore and Ivorey were never meant to be together. An idea to split their two boys so they wouldn't need to travel and figure out time for the boys to spend in each home. Riley stayed with Ivorey and his brother had moved. The boys were not quite two years of age at the time of the decision. Ivorey and Riley had stayed in Berkshire, Ivorey had changed Riley's surname to her maiden name upon the divorce, he'd gone from Riley Teo McConnell to Riley Teo Adair. Ivorey was a hard working person who cared for her son the best she could. Riley would find himself at his grandmother's house when Ivorey worked. Ivorey was a Journalist at the Daily Prophet, her work often kept her busy and sometimes away from home. Riley's grandmother, Ella Louise, who he often just called Grandma El, she taught him everything that he knew. He helped around her house as he got older and she would give him lessons while he was doing so. Grandma El was his teacher, his caregiver, she was his best friend. She did a very good job on keeping things a secret, but telling him it at the same time things of his past. Growing up Riley often had dreams of a boy who looked like him, he ached for a missing portion of his soul, someone that was supposed to be there but wasn't. Grandma El had a way of telling him that the person he was looking for was a brother, but she never told him, and he never put the words that she spoke together to string ties of her essentially telling him he had a brother on the other side of the world from him. She took him places to meet other boys to replace that ache, to try and draw the dreams to a close. Ivorey wouldn't explain anything to her son, he was too young to understand. She just made sure that he stayed as happy as a boy who missed someone could be. Grandma El prepared him the best she could for Hogwarts. She had once been a Curriculum Planning and Development Officer at the Ministry for Hogwarts. She had a general idea of lessons in school and made sure that he would have a handle on his first year at school. She showed him potions so he would know how they were supposed to turn out. She showed him charms and how to properly use a wand. She showed him how to fly on a toy broomstick. Soon enough the time had come when he was due for his journey to Diagon Alley to purchase his school supplies. Ivorey took him to Madam Malkin's for his school robes. She helped him purchase his necessary books, and other equipment for school. He purchased his wand, an experience he'd been so excited for. A rather springy wand had found him. Made from the wood of a plum tree with the talon of a Hippogriff. After getting his wand Ivorey then took her son to get a pet. Riley wasn't sure, the school list said that he was allowed a cat, an owl or a toad. He'd never had a pet before and his mother and grandmother said that it was a good idea to get an owl. Riley had most definitely gone in to get an owl but he fell in love with the most beautiful grey striped tabby cat. The kitten was so small it could fit in the palm of his hand. She was the cutest little thing and when he picked her up she snuggled right into his hands. He named her Nai and she was his new pet. His mother did agree that he could use the school owls if he needed to send off anything. Only a few weeks later Riley had gone through the barrier onto Platform 9 ¾ and was greeted by the scarlet red train engine that lead the Hogwarts Express. He was due to go to the school where his mother went, his grandmother, his grandfather, and it just continued up the line from there. Both Ivorey and Ella had taken Riley to the platform and saw him off to school. He boarded the train and met a few people on it. He already knew he was going to miss his mother. Of the group he sat with on the train, most of the students knew where they wanted to be sorted. Riley wasn't sure where he fit. Grandma El and his mother had both been in Ravenclaw, so he had kind of hoped that was where he would get sorted. But Riley didn't feel like he necessarily fit into the Ravenclaw mold. He was smart, there were no questions to that, Grandma El had showed him everything he could have known at that time. Riley had a feeling that even though his family came from a line of Ravenclaws he wasn't going to belong there. It wasn't too long before his bum was placed upon the stool in front of the school. He was one of the first students to go up and have the sorting hat placed upon his head. The house took it's time with him. It had debated on Ravenclaw, told him something that he didn't quite understand until much later in the year, in the end his personality qualities that fit with Hufflepuff won over the strengths of his mind. The hat called out the house of the badger through the Great Hall. Hufflepuff was the perfect house for him. He'd always fit the qualities of the house, he'd always been a loyal, dedicated, hard-working individual, and was most definitely one of the nicest guys that people could meet. He always had a way of making friends wherever he could. The majority of his first year was spent getting used to the school and taking his lessons. He did very well in a fair amount of his classes. He could hold his own among those in Ravenclaw. He spent most of his free time studying in the library. It was a normal year for him. Until March... The world as Riley had known it had turned upside down. Was there any way their parents didn't think their decision could have gone wrong? A friend had put two and two together, the two boys, one in Slytherin and one in Hufflepuff who shared a number of similar features and a birthday. Riley hadn't been sure how to handle the situation. A letter was sent to his mother, more of a word, it was an owl that went to his mother with the name of his brother written on a paper. The other boy, Bailey, that was so strange, had grown up in a very different place. It was strange that his brother sounded so different, had so very different experiences in life. There were many nights that were spent talking through the nights. The time that they'd spent apart was time that they needed to get caught up. Riley met his father the following summer. Being such a momma's boy and a grandmother's boy, he had a hard time finding anything to relate with his father. But while his life had turned upside down, he now had answers on why he felt the way he did when he was younger. He understood the things that his grandmother would whisper to him when he was younger. He felt complete when he spoke with Bailey. He could have done without his father that came along with knowing his brother. There were many emotions that Riley had felt come up through the experience, things that he still felt to this day. Anger is one thing that was most recognizable. He had no problems shoving it down into some deep, dark part of him where the anger never came up. A strong effort was put forth with his classes, and quickly he figured out where he belonged. And over time what he could do with his life. It was amazing having a brother, let alone having a twin. He had someone to go through this change with. He couldn't believe that there had been this person that he could have lived his entire life not knowing if Bailey hadn't received a Hogwarts letter. What were the actual chances they would have ever met or even known of each other had Bailey not come to Hogwarts? It was strange to think back on to the times when Riley and Bailey had lessons together without a clue that either were related. That they'd passed by each other for nearly an entire school year before sharing a connection. Riley could remember the day when they were sorted, he remembered when the sorting hat had called out Slytherin. These were memories that seemed to connect. His eyes found his brother even before they knew it in the mind. As the scrawny little Hufflepuff, Riley didn't often speak to most Slytherin's unless it was for a lesson. Some were downright arses. Bailey had definitely gotten the more creative genes than Riley. Riley watched as his brother used creative outlets, music and art took a strong focus. Riley was better with studying and practicing different types of magic for a career path. The slightly younger twin definitely supported his brother with the practicing of music. A promise was made that he'd support him no matter what, whether he succeeded or failed, Bailey would always have a place in Riley's life. The years through school were nice, except for holidays, figuring out where each boy would spend the holidays was never an easy thing. It also made Riley just want to stay at Hogwarts during the Christmas holiday break. He hated going back home due to the confusion within his own life. But he never had to do it alone. There had been a lot to work through in the years that followed. Riley wasn't one to talk about things that bothered him. While Bailey could visibly show an anger, Riley stayed silent. He stayed calm. He focused through other things to hold that anger in. Where Bailey could send a howler to their parents, Riley couldn't. Bailey had been incredibly more assertive than Riley could ever be. Bailey could express what Riley felt, and Riley hadn't needed to share those feelings. Both Riley and Bailey were most definitely not your average twins. They both were incredibly self reliant, most likely stemming from the nine years that they didn't have each other. There were some personality things that made life easier once Bailey was a part of his life. Riley still became close to his brother, and while he didn't necessarily need him to do certain things, it was incredibly nice to have him near. He felt lucky to gain a brother eleven years into his life, even if he wished that Bailey had been there the entire time. Who wouldn't wish that if their sibling had been gone so long from their life? Riley decided pretty early what he wanted to do. While his situation was fairly unique, he wanted to help kids with their own problems. He decided that he'd go into healing. He hadn't been quite aware of what he wanted to do in particular with that but he knew he wanted to handle mind. He had considered training as a nurse at Hogwarts at one time since the school had brought him his brother, the school had happy memories for Riley. He ended up deciding St. Mungo's was going to be the place for him. He decided exactly what he wanted to do after his fifth year once he got his O.W.L. marks. Riley had made the decision that he wanted to work in the permanent spell damage ward at St. Mungo's and then privately help Hogwarts aged kids during the holiday seasons. He became a Psychologist for both sides of it. During his sixth and seventh year he spent a lot of his time studying up on the subjects. Psychology was fairly new to the wizarding world, it had previously been mostly a muggle study. Most of the books he purchased to read on psychology and the mind of children and teenagers had been purchased from muggle bookstores that he had requested his mother to purchase before he left to go back to school. He decided that he could expand his knowledge and work with adults once he settled into his life and figure out exactly what path he had wanted. Riley got the marks on his N.E.W.T.s that would be perfect for what he wanted to do, and if he ever wanted a department change within St. Mungo's. He'd been so happy to see his marks. He had made the decision to take some time to travel by himself, to take a year or so away from everything to overcome the stress that he'd been put through. He wanted to be away from parents. Bailey had begun working on getting himself into a band otherwise Riley would have asked if he'd come along with him. Riley was happy that Bailey had found himself joining 'The Vehement Harpies' before he actually left to go on his trip. Riley had started in Japan. He loved his time there and spent over half of his travels throughout the country. He had very little knowledge of the language but had begun to pick it up, something that he continued to practice on. He loved it so much that one day he promised himself he would go back. He traveled in Australia and New Zealand, he'd been there during the end of their winter and beginning of their spring. He'd been in Africa for a time, the middle east. And as he neared home he began to drag his feet through the rest of Europe. He hadn't quite been ready to end his travels to go back home, to begin to work. One thing that he held close was sending letters as often as he could to his brother, he also sent treats when he found some that he liked in small packages. He'd never used muggle post before, but the whole traveling was meant to bring new experiences, to help him figure everything out. It was by the letters that he sent to and received from Bailey that he found out his brother would be leaving on a magical world tour. And naturally to keep promises Riley had come back home only to prepare to leave with his brother on the tour. To say the least, Riley had been incredibly proud of his brother, how could he not have been? Bailey was doing something that their parents didn't necessarily think he could make a career of. Bailey was doing better with himself than Riley was who had plans to go off and work at a hospital. Which of the twins were honestly making more of themselves at that time? The following time where he followed the band along on tour, spending plenty of time with his brother, it was a whirlwind. He enjoyed every moment of it, and after that he had planned to go along with Bailey as often as he would be able to. It was that trip that pushed Riley to actually apply to St. Mungo's permanent spell damage ward. Now three years later he works as hard as he can helping who he can. He took the inititave to move out of his mother's house and purchased a small two bedroom flat in the Camden neighborhood near Regent's Park in London. The spare bedroom mostly for anyone visiting, always open to his brother when needed. Bailey had been the only one his family that Riley trusted enough to share a key to his home with. Bailey had met a girl, well reacquainted with a girl, during his tour when they had been in America, Persephone, Poppy was what she'd been known as. A girl that his brother would marry after time. It was March 18th, only the previous year, where he stood with his brother as Bailey married the girl of his dreams. These were experiences that Riley was happy he could share with his brother. These were experiences that made him think on where he'd be had they never met, had they never known of the other. Who would Riley have to share his own day with other than his brother had he never known Bailey? Luckily he didn't have to live his life with the missing person in his life. He got to experience life with his brother now. He's been with St. Mungo's for about three years now. Whenever Bailey is in town Riley makes sure to spend time with his brother, he will take the time away from work when he can. Now he's working across St. Mungo's when anyone who may be a bit of a headcase comes in. But he's also training to actually be able to administer potions to help people. While he prefers to talk to people about problems, he wants to also be able to help worse cases without sending them to someone else. Work keeps him incredibly busy but he always finds time to live. He always finds time to spend his free time out in the world living instead of home sleeping. He promised himself that he couldd and would live his life to the fullest, doing what he want with work, working to spend his free time with his brother, he even has tried to talk to his father a bit more. When Bailey's not in town he often finds himself having at least lunch with his mother. Life may have started off in an unconventional way but he was eternally grateful for all that he did have now. And while he often had wished that he could have turned back the time to when their parents split, he realized over time that he would not be who he was had he'd grown up with Bailey. He no longer regretted the missing time that they had, but spent what time they did have making up for it. That was all they could do now. Let's us all just be friend, And together we can start a new trend. ALIAS: ADMIN JESS AGE: 25 DISCOVERY: Nope definitely not necessary for me anymore. I think I'm attached.
